How to Stop Norton Support Loader

Norton Support Loader is part of Norton's antivirus software. The function of this program is to help the user report errors and receive support from Norton's support desk. Unless a user has adjusted the settings, Norton Support Loader is constantly running while the computer is in use, using computer resources and slowing computer performance. Since a user can also access Norton's support services through the program menu, having Norton Support Loader constantly running is redundant. When the settings are changed on Norton Support Loader, the user may still access the software without the program running continually.

Instructions

Open the Windows start menu by clicking on "Start" or the start icon.

Find and select the "Run" program in the start menu. If the program is not readily apparent then click on "All Programs" and "Accessories." In the Accessories folder will be the Run program.

Click on "Run" to start the program.

Enter the text "msconfig" in the field next to "Open."

Click on the "Startup" tab in the newly opened system configuration box. A list of programs will appear.

Place the cursor between "Startup Item" and "Manufacturer" at the top of the list to see the names better. The cursor becomes a plus sign with arrows on each end. Click and move the cursor to the right to expose more of the "Startup Item" text.

Go through the list until Norton Loader appears. If Norton Loader is not on this list, go to Step 9. If it is on the list, uncheck the box, click "Apply" and then click "OK."

Restart the computer.
