The Avira AntiVir Removal Tool is a paltry 359 kilobytes in size yet packs a big punch with a complete integrated virus scanning engine, virus definitions, and command line functionality. While the program doesn’t include an auto update capability it can detect and remove a variety of viruses, worms, and Trojans. They are as follows , Sober.J/P/Y, TR/Agent.imh/its, TR/Drop.Agent.qna.2/Agent.qna.1. TR/PSW.Delf.AH/Kates.C.25,TR/Spy.Delf.tge/Banker.AATZ/Banker.AATZ.1/Banker.AATZ.2/Banker.AATZ..,W32/Stanit.A, Worm/NetSky.P and more.
During a full system scan, the Avira AntiVir Removal Tool only used 4.5 megabytes of Ram and a minuscule 2 percent CPU Power. The program claimed that the scanner’s throughput was about 2 megabytes per second however, according to resource monitor, it is more like 500 kiliobytes per second. This is substantially slower than competing antivirus engines and even the free antivirus engine included with Avira’s other products.
When virus scanning is complete, the AntiVir Removal Tool displays a variety of statistics including the number of modules, folders, files scanned and also the elapsed time. I was kind of surprised to find that AntiVir can scan the memory at almost 70 megabytes per second.
One of the major advantages to the AntiVir Removal Tool is that it can be operated in the command line. This is perfect for a large network that may have been affected by any of the above listed viruses. The AntiVir Removal tool can be easily and quickly deployed on hundreds of machines. The command line functionality offers the ability to customize the target drive to be scanned for viruses and modify the log file behavior etc.
