They popped up on my screen and advised me that my system was not safe. That it had a bunch of threatening spyware, malware etc. on it and it was in danger. These scammers are smart because they new that I had Windows Vista as my OS (operating system). Then when I tried to bypass it by going into my search engine, I couldn't get passed it. It would not leave. It would just pop up again with more alerts of threatening things on my system.

Because it didn't go away and it was titled with the word vista in it and looked like a windows product, I thought it was legit and it was advising me of threats on my system, and doing that to protect my computer. I couldn't get rid of it until I paid for it. It just so happened that my security protection system was running a scan the next day, that was when I was made aware that this program was not legitimate. My security system called it a "Misleading Application" I researched it further and discovered that I had been had.

The program can be installed on your computer without your knowledge. Sometimes you can just click on a banner somewhere and bam!, you'll have a virus alert. Then it starts fake computer scans and displays warnings about threats found on your computer. The only opportunity to get rid of the alerts, according to AntiVirus Pro2010, is to purchase the full version of it. Do Not trust this application and Do Not install it.

If it has already sneaked into your system... remove it immediately!! Close every open program on your computer, just back out of them until you get to your desktop. Don't click on anything you may be asked or shown. Log off your computer and return to it in a few moments. One suggestion is to go into windows support help chat and text with them and tell them exactly what happened. A lot of the time windows help chat will be happy to help you. If you're using a different OS(operating system) than you'll want to contact that specific support-help, either by live chat or by email, you might even want to place a call to them to see what they advise. Either way most OS support will be glad to assist you.

Usually windows support won't charge you, but there may be a charge for further assistance by them if necessary. It shouldn't be no more than approximately $59.00. Microsoft support has been very helpful too. Of course other OS (operating system) support services might be a little more. Either way it's better to pay a minor fee to repair the problem from home, than it would be to hire a computer technician or buy a new computer, right? Unless there are no other options for you.

BUT be ready, this will not be an easy task. It's difficult and unless you are a computer expert be prepared to take up a lot of time figuring out how to get rid of it. This was a real nightmare, but good lesson for me. The one thing I can say I got out of it, was that I learned a lot about these types of anti-virus protection programs. I learned that ANY anti-virus protection program might not be able to protect your computer system from ALL viruses out there. But you can take measures to prevent them from attacking your system.

Since most of the AV products out there work this way, their definition files are very similar, so having more than one AV program looking for the exact same thing really does not help you to weed out more viruses.

Having more than one AV product can also have bad side effects. AV software loads into a portion of your computers memory when you start it up. Having more than one AV program means more than one scanner taking up valuable real estate in your memory, this leaves less memory available for the things you want to run on your computer. Less memory means your computer will have to use a portion of the hard drive and make everything on your computer slow down.

Another bad effect of having multiple AV programs is the possibility of them seeing the other programs as bad and trying to delete portions of them.
